INGER operations

INGER internal operations associated with the worldwide sharing of elite germplasm and related information; from processing incoming materials, data collection, keeping in cold storages and dispatching packed seeds to different cooperators.

Outgoing Materials Processing  << Processing of Incoming Materials

  • Cold Storage.  Seeds are kept in cold storage to preserve seed viability while avoiding pre-mature germination.
  • Checking Seed Purity.  Rechecking of seed purity from seed pull-out is done by the Seed Health Unit (SHU).
  • Viability Testing.  Stored seeds are germinated to check its viability and recorded.
  • Cleaning and Grading.  Seeds are subjected to cleaning to remove non-seed materials and then graded to eliminate broken grains.
  • Manual Sorting.  Discolored seeds, unfilled grains and mixtures are manually removed.
  • Seed Health and Quality Evaluation.  Seed materials are evaluated to meet phytosanitary and quarantine requirements.
  • Hot Water Treatment.  This treatment is done: 1) when required by requesting country based on the declaration in the import permit; 2) for all seedlots positive to the nematode, Aphelenchoides besseyi.
  • Fungicide Treatment.  This treatment is done: 1) when required by requesting country based on the declaration in the import permit; 2) in the presence of high fungal infection.
  • Fumigation.  This is a standard treatment done for all incoming and outgoing materials to eliminate storage insects.
  • Seed Packing.  Seeds are packed in different packing materials depending on the type of seed materials and place of destination. (Seed packing materials are coin envelop, cloth bags, foil packs, tin cans, and net bags.
  • Dispatch.  Packed seeds are sent to different cooperators of INGER for experimentation.
